To change it just for yourself, run "switchdesk kde" in a terminal. To change it for all users, edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop and change the desktop from GNOME to KDE.
how to change from KDE to Gnome desktop environment
edit /etc/sysconfig/desktop and change the desktop from GNOME to KDE <<< this worked for
me, I'm using Knoppix 7.4.2 and got stuck in KDE and didn't know how to get back to my
original desktop environment so I put an # symbol in front of each line in the desktop
file located at /etc/sysconfig/desktop by using the vi text editor (as root)(su or sudo) and
then closed the file and rebooted...got my original desktop back!!! Yay!
