I would like to build a kernel for my FC3 laptop. I found info on how to do it at
http://www.cri.ch/linux/docs/sk0010.html but I have a couple questions before I get started.
1) If I build a new kernel, will the package system complain that my system doesn't meet dependancy requirements when trying to install new packages? It's been my experience that the RPM package system is
very finicky. I've had packages from the FC3 installation DVD that wouldn't install because I had used the update program and the
exact version of one of its dependancies wasn't present.
2) Is it possible to build certain modules like the nVidia driver into the kernel itself? From what I have read, it is possible to include drivers like Riva but is there a way to include the new nVidia driver? If so, how would I go about that? Would I run the installer so I would have a compile module to use and then edit the kernel .config file? Or is there a way to get source out of the installer and actually compile it right into the kernel?
As you can tell, I don't have any experience with this but would certainly appreciate any help.
