I recommend you head in the general direction of kde-redhat @ http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net and enjoy!

You might want to glance at my thread here where one problem with 3.5 is discussed (and a solution is proposed).

Well there are some pretty clear instructions at the site I pointed. But here goes anyway:
- At your favorite terminal do:
Code:
rpm --import http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/gpg-pubkey-ff6382fa-3e1ab2ca
Then download this file: http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-re...de-redhat.repo

Copy or move this file to /etc/yum.repos.d/

Now all you have to do is yum update kde*.

Note 1: kde-redhat depends on extras repo (comes with your FC4) and the livna repo, if you don't have livna installed do a
Code:
rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release4.rpm
at your favorite terminal.

Note 2: Doing a general update on kde* can be a bad idea, I remember some issues regarding yum doing more than 32 (times 2 if updating) operations at once (dunno if they fixed this yet). So try going one step at a time, like first updating kdebase & kdelibs then go for kdemultimedia (this will be big) and kdepim (another big one), proceed with kdesdk & kdevelop and then I think it should be safe to update the remaining.

Has anyone checked at Fedora's Update site lately.

Yes, you should see KDE-3.5 updates for FC4.

I know Fedora just released their own version of KDE 3.5 - The problem is that everybody knows (or at least everybody should know) that official Fedora packages for KDE are usually crippled and makes it look bad when it comes to stability and functionality.

my bad. new to the whole yum thing.

not sure what I installed know I am missing kpackage and other programs which kinda ticks me off. it would be nice if they had packages to install what they removed.
used to slackware.

thanks for the post

And the other does not release source rpm files and does not support anything other then x86 which makes me wonder about stability, functionality and security. I'm not saying they are bad but they should at least make available the source rpms for review IMHO.

To Lenard:
Want source? Get THE source
Want other archs? Give'em money so they can buy some hardware and get cooking.

To mrapathy:
Sounds like you are missing kdeadmin somewhere.

They built binary rpms, they should supply the source rpms.

If you don't think so, then this is OK. But for me, if they cannot supply the source they used to build the binaries, I do not want the binaries. And yes this is a personal thing and not a complaint.

If you know of location where these sources are available, then please post.

At least the Fedora folks supply the source for review/modification;

To Lenard:
As far as I know the folks at kde-redhat do no modification but the ones the folks at KDE do, thats why I said that if you need the code (the source rpms) you might as well get the code from KDE.

To mrapathy:
Weird, so is it just the menu entry missing or is it the kpackage thingie not available even at run box?

Actually, they take the source code from Red Hat / Fedora
make changes and re-publish the source (yes, I found the source rpms);

%changelog
* Sat Dec 17 2005 Rex Dieter 6:3.5.0-2.2
- put %%_libdir/lib*.a only in -devel

* Fri Dec 16 2005 Rex Dieter 6:3.5.0-2.1
- -devel: Req: openssl-devel (#175940)

* Tue Dec 13 2005 Than Ngo <than@redhat.com> 6:3.5.0-2
- apply patch to fix konqueror for working with new openssl #174541

But they make it a bit strange to build working binary rpms. I understand about using other third party repos and apps, but really;

# rpmbuild -bb kdebase.spec
error: Failed build dependencies:
kdelibs-devel >= 6:3.5.0 is needed by kdebase-3.5.0-1.2.x86_64
mDNSResponder-devel is needed by kdebase-3.5.0-1.2.x86_64

In order to build the kdebase you need to build and install kdelibs first and maybe making your system fairly un-stable(??) is not a good idea. Don't take this as a complaint either, it is just a comment. The source rpms as supplied by Fedora Core do not build properly in an x86_64 CentOS-4.2 system either. Looks like I have some work to do in either case to build a set of KDE-3.5 binary rpms for x86_64 (as I expected).

Off to see if I can build a good set of the qt (3.3.5-7.1) binary rpms for x86_64.
