Elementary Os Freya 0.3.1 UEFI install "workaround" (the grub2 shell only - error)
I've heard rumours that this error is due efi bootloader being hardcoded to ubuntu defaults. Also heard rumours that aliens don't want Freya to be used..
Well, whatever the reason, I stumbled across a wery easy workaround for it.
1. Before installing Freya 0.3.1, install ubuntu.
No matter are you installing it next to windows or as the only Os.
2. After installing ubuntu, fire up Freya as live Os. Head to EFI/boot partition, and backup /EFI/Ubuntu folder somewhere. After that, delete it.
(Yes, EFI/Ubuntu NEEDS to be deleted, or freya finds windows + ubuntu and adds both to boot menu, not pretty to misslaunch..)
3. Install Freya using the partitions for ubuntu install. (Format them though..)
4. Bootup your LIVE Freya again...
5. Head to EFI partition, enter grub (or ubuntu) folder, and replace EVERY .efi file with your backed up ones(. LEAVE THE CONFIG FILE ALONE, DO NOT OVERWRITE THAT.
6. reboot. Works like a dream.
WARNING: IF YOU ARE INSTALLING FREYA (or ANY linux on UEFI mode) NEXT TO WINDOWS, DO NOT MODIFY ANY OTHER FOLDERS IN EFI PARTITION, UNLESS YOU *REALLY* KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!
A *REAL* RISK OF GETTING ENDLESS B.S.O.D AND A SHITTY JOB OF REINSTALLING WINDOWS TO FIX IT!!! (Yup, tested myself...)
