Angry Via Twister-T (PN133T/VT82C686B) display issue

I'm having issues with getting xwin (any variant, mostly KDE or IceWM) to start in anything other than 640x480, even after editing the appropriate files in /etc/x11/xf86* --

I have a Shuttle SV25 (FV25 motherboard) with the Via Twister-T (PN133T) integrated video chipset. ViaArena.com only has linux drivers for Redhat ....

Does anybody know where I might find current drivers that'd do the trick? Failing that, does anybody have any suggestions as to how to get the bloody VESA driver to work correctly?

(background: I'm running Knoppix 7/26/03 as a hdinstall; when booting from CD the hardware is recognized flawlessly. Post install ... well ... *sigh*)

Thanks for your suggestions.

Jeff

Have you tried grabbing the autodetected XF86Config from Knoppix and using it on your install?
