Yeah, I think it's because it's trying to securely rewrite every byte of data on a TB drive... cancelling this skipped it though.

Turns out my backup didn't work. I tried to cp -r my home directory onto an external drive. It didn't squak so I assumed it went just fine. Jumped into that external drive after reinstall and it's nowhere to be found.
