snort daemon

18470 ?        00:00:00 snort
how do i disable snort daemon at start up? i only want it to be running when i want it to be running.

Is there any start up script in below directories?

ls -l /etc/rc3.d/ | grep snort
ls -l /etc/rc5.d/ | grep snort

yup there are snort files in there. i've check actually checked those files but didnt know what to do with them.

You can just remove these files (they should be actually symlinks) or use command:
Code:
update-rc.d -f snort remove
And for starting daemon this command:

/etc/init.d/snort start
or stop, or restart.

Question Will this also work for xubuntu 'natty' ?

I have the same files and was going to attempt to run this but not sure on my distro. And I don't want to mess up the program. Can u let me know?
Basically, I want to use snort though service command when I want but don't want it running at startup since I have litte memory on box. TBH
