no system sounds in debian 8.3 jessie-gnome

I got them working in wheezy by installing moblin-sound-theme & gnome-session-canberra but this didn't work in jessie.

I seem to have all other sound everywhere except system, ie, flv,ogg,mpg,mp4,wav. All seem to have sound.

I'm looking particularly for the logon sound.

Any ideas?

Hi...

Although for older versions of Debian, do any of the suggestions here or here help?

Regards...

well thanks for the tips but neither one worked.

the event_sounds box was already checked in deconf & the "desktop-login.ogg" file was already in /usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo and /usr/share/sounds/gnome/stereo, so stuck again.

the thing just insists on remaining silent at login & googling isn't helping. lots of hits but none for debian 8.3 with gnome 3.14.

What sound card are you using?

Have you installed 'firmware-linux-nonfree' package?

If I remember, I think the logon sound can be added on the desktop environment.

the firmware pkg was already installed.

these are audio devices listed in lspci:

Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller
Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV710/730 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 4000 series]

sound does work everywhere (videos, mp3's,ogg files played manually, etc) EXCEPT system event sounds .

i also tried logging in the other available desktop environments (gnome, gnome/wayland, xfce) & the symptoms are the same, all sounds work except event sounds. very frustrating.

i'm guessing theres a setting in the debian op system itself that has to be tweaked or installed but no idea what. the google hits i get for no system sounds are mostly from 2011,2012 & suggest things ive already tried.

I also have the Radeon 4000 series sound card and have sound working on Debian 8.

Using Cinnamon, I went into System Settings - Sound - Sound Effects, and applied sound when making various desktop operations.
However, there is no sound. It seems I have the same problem too.

well I finally got my login sound.

just stumbled into it tho. I reread the few google hits I found & noted that most of them did not apply to debian 8.3/gnome classic but were for ubuntu & thus the scripts & menus were all different. So I went to dconf-org-gnome-desktop-sound & changed 'theme-name' from '--default' to 'freedesktop', clicked set as defult. logged out/in & there it was!
