Netrunner 1703 virtualbox guest additions 5.1.22 menu bar disappears
Hi! Everybody
I have netrunner 1703 running in virtualbox 5.1.22, with all updates install. The only problem is, when I install guest additions 5.1.22 on it, the menu / bottom panel (menu taskbar and background task icons disappears, after reboot to enable the guest additions 5.1.22), only way to shutdown in from virtualbox menu and selecting. acpi shutdown. Any way to get the menu/task bar back? Thanks for the time and help in advance.
Out of interest, if you place the mouse arrow over where the menu bar should be (try different points) and click, does that do anything (i.e. is the menu just invisible)?

Hi! hydrurga
Thanks for the reply. If I click where the menu button was, I get the menu, if I hover the mouse over the background tasks icons used to be I get a pop up description, the rest is invisible. See screenshot attachment, please. Any ideas? Thanks for your tie and help in advance.
Ok. The reason I asked is that I had exactly the same problem running Manjaro (with KDE Plasma) in a VirtualBox VM. For the life of me I can't remember how I solved it though (if in fact I did - it's possible that it contributed to my eventual decision to ditch using Manjaro as a VM).
Try searching the Manjaro forum, and possibly other distro forums. I know that Manjaro isn't Netrunner but the constants are KDE Plasma and VirtualBox.
All I do know is that my notes tell me that I didn't trust any of the VirtualBox guest stuff that actually came as packages in Manjaro - I removed virtualbox-guest-utils, linux41-virtualbox-guest-modules (& any others, one for each kernel), and installed linux44-headers (which in Manjaro auto installed headers for any new kernels installed; there should also be a Netrunner way to do this). Then whenever there was a new VirtualBox version, I would install the guest additions downloaded from the Oracle website by mounting the relevant CD image.
I don't know if the above was my solution or not to that particular problem though, sorry.
Hi! Does anybody have an idea, how to get the menu taskbar back into the screen? Please see the screenshot attachment in older post. Thanks for the time and help in advance.
I'm not using manjaro, netrunner is based on debian testing, but I change my sources to stretch to make it more stable. I run netrunner before with 3d acceleration with no problems. I did disable 3d acceleration in virtualbox for netrunner 1703, and the menu/taskbar reappear when I run it. Is this means that I wont have 3d capabilities no more? Does anyone know a workaround for this to get the 3d runing again? I really want to run it as normal installation. Thanks for your time and help in advance.

I know you're not running Manjaro, and mentioned that in my posts. It was the VirtualBox / KDE Plasma that was the common theme, and the common problem, crossing multiple distros, and I knew that it had affected Manjaro at some point too. The next time someone posts something that you don't understand, please at least acknowledge their post and ask for clarification rather than completely ignoring it and just asking your original question again.
If it worked before with 3-D acceleration enabled, then treat this as a temporary blip caused by Guest Additions 5.1.22. You should wait until the next version of Guest Additions comes out before re-trying 3-D acceleration to see if the new Guest Additions has solved the problem. Of course, if you wish, you can revert to the previous version of Guest Additions in the meantime in order to have 3-D acceleration.
Understood, I'll have to wait for future versions of virtualbox. I was not sure about the wording on previous post, that is why I decided to make sure, any reader understood my problem. I apologize for any miss understanding. Thanks for your time and help.

No problem, linux1021. I'm really glad you got it sorted out. Have fun with Netrunner!
