Nautilus never returns any search results

Hi

Only just noticed actually, minor annoyance.

If I do any searches within Nautilus it ever returns any results.

I have googled this and the most common causes/solutions dont seem to apply.

i.e

Searches will only return results on files which the user owns.
Run nautilus as root
Various error messages

For me it doesnt matter wha or where I am searching as me or root, nothing ever shows up. No errors anywhere just zero results.

Simple searches like *.jpg when I know that they are there.

Any suggestions?

*

? Why not use : $ find . -name "*.jpg"
... which is usually the fastest way for a "search" ?

Try this:

Open the Overview, select "Search and Indexing" (type "Tracker" and it should show).

Check your settings there:

* in the "Indexing" tab, make sure one or more of the "Semantics" options are checked, and your Limitations are not too restrictive.
* under the locations tab, that the "Recurse" option for the appropriate directories is checked.
* make sure none of the file types you are looking for are included in the "Ignored COntent" tab.

Knudfl - I know there are loads of other ways to accomplish the task, but this should be functional.

Everthing is set, still no results

Ok, let's try this:

Under the "System" tab, remove all Indexed data, and reboot. Log in. Give it some time to rebuild the database. Maybe yours got corrupted somehow, and therefore returning no results.

Make sure tracker is even running. From a terminal,

Code:
ps -e | grep tracker

Hi

That still didnt work

I saw some references to a known bug with a certain version of Nautilus. It didnt match the version I had but that gave me the idea of upgrading anyway.

However the Wheezy repos dont have the most up to date version...I have found this with a few packages now.

So I took the plunge and upgraded to Jessie. This particular issue is fixed in Jessie
