Kernel panic while booting with 2.6.3

Hello,
I compiled my kernel 2.6.3 in common way:
make mrproper
make gconfig
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
cp ... to /boot ...

edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
grub-install /dev/hda (i installed grub at hda mbr)

but when i boot with that kernel
i got this panic:
....
RAMDISK:cramfs filesystme found at block 0
RAMDISK:loading 860 blocks[1disk] into ram disk
done
Kernel Panic:VFS :Unable to mount root fs on hdc2
........................................................................................
I'm sure that the root filesystem is ext2 and located at hdc2
and i also compiled the ext2 and ext3 support as 'y" instead of 'm"

Interesting things are that:
If i delete the "initrd" line in the file boot/grub/menu.lst,
i can boot with the compiled 2.6.3 kernel ,
but i can't mount any other /dev/hd.... that is vfat or ext3
mount command always said:/dev/hd.. seemed not a block device

so what 's wrong ?

sounds like the same problem as sensovision: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=156918

The exact kernel i had the problem with, was actually 2.6.3... But i think it's a general 2.6 problem...
