ISO Guidance: Net-Install, layman edition.

I'm brand new to your forums, your OS, and specifically the entire LINUX world.

I've decided to learn to administer LINUX, and I am going to start with an install on one of my machines at home.

I got a Sarge DVD in a some LINUX magazine or another, and can't come up with a way to use this thing as an install tool.

The machine that I'm going to convert to LINUX does not have a DVD drive on it (I'm considering buying one just to do this install, but that has to be after I've exhausted all other options). Since I have a DVD drive on my other machine, I've shared that drive, but I don't believe there's a way to boot from a network drive (??).

I've been bouncing through a few LINUX resources on-line, and I've seen mention of a "net-install", but honestly, the language I keep coming across is way over my head. My LINUX vocabulary is sub-newbie - I PROMISE !!!!

I would appreciate if someone could let me know:
1. If a "net-install" is going to be possible given my circumstances.

2. If a "net-install is applicable...HOW do I do this?

You can call me "Ray"...
Thx.

A debian net-install CD will take you from a blank hard drive to an installed "base system", which means a bare-bones, commandline only, but working setup. Then, using a broadband connection, you can install whatever you like for a desktop GUI, with all the bells and whistles.

1. Download a netinstall CD image, and burn it to a CD.
2. Connect the system to your internet connection.
3. Make sure the system BIOS is set to boot from CD first.
4. Boot the system from the netinstall CD and follow the instructions.

It's easy!
