install real player 10 GOLD on Debian Unstable

Hi
I have tried installing RealPlayer10 on my Debian Unstable laptop. All goes seamingly well, I run the .bin file downloaded from Real's Linux pages (I've tried the ones from the Helix site also) as root into /usr/local/RealPlayer. I let it create the simlinks and all looks good...

When I run RealPlayer it doesn't do anything (tried as root and local user). If I run a 'tail -f /var/log/syslog' to watch what is happening when I try to run it - nothing!

If I do a 'ps aux' when it is meant to be running, the processes are shown to be running, but I see nothing. Also, if I run from the command line, the shell looks like it is waiting for something to run, but it just stays like that indefinately.

Anyone else had this problem?

Help appreciated as I would like to intigrate RealPlayer browser stuff...

Cheers
Steve

I actually dowloaded to /home/leon and did it from there as root, It worked perfectly for me.

All I can think of, is that the assistant stuff isn't working, maybe theirs a dependancy that isn't being met, or a lib version thats not suitable for it. Or you may have a corrupted config file, check in your home directory and delete anything beginning with .realplayer or .realnetworks and try again.

Thanks for the reply. I tried installing exactly the same as yours, into my home folder etc. Still no joy. Does anyone know what dependancies RealPlayer requires?
