Load missing firmware iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode in 'Etch'

Hi all,

I've downloaded the latest Debian CD 'Lenny' and tried to install it.

It kept saying do I want to add a firmware called 'iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode' during the installation since I have Intel wireless 3945ABG.

Where do I get the firmware to put into my USB stick?

Does my USB stick must be format in Fat?

Must it have a folder called 'Firmware' in order the installation to pick up the driver?

Here is my laptop spec:

Alienware
Core Duo 2 x 1.8GHz
2GB DDR2
100GB SATA 7200RPM
ATI Radeon x1800 256MB DDR3

Thanks in advance

you get the firmware for intel wireless cards from the Intel Linux Wireless site. http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/

I don't know that you can easily get wireless working for an install, I normally use a wired connection for install and worry about the wireless afterwards.

Check the README file for the firmware, to determine proper firmware lofcation on your system .

It wouldn't pick up the driver on my USB stick... What am I doing wrong?

I uncompressed the tar file and saved into the USB stick. Is that right?

Must it be save in a specific name/folder?

If you have debian image in a USB disk, you don't need to read the tutorial.

The trick is to extract the same USB disk that you used to load and insert into another computer. A drive labeled "Firmware" will be mounted, and you can copy the files there. Umount, and insert it again into the computer that is being installed.
