I've been searching the net and posted, unsuccessfully, at the debianhelp.org forums w/ no replies. How do i add programs, that i compiled, to the debian menu?

I guess you want to read the documentation in /usr/share/doc/menu

i put a file called "mplayer" in "/usr/lib/menu". this is what was in it.

Code:
?package(mplayer): \
needs=X11 \
section="Apps/Video" \
title="MPlayer" \
command="gmplayer"
then i did an "update-menus" and nothing showed up in the menu.

You didn't read the documentation very well then. You should put local entries in either /etc/menu or ~/.menu. Using your example above the entry should read

?package(local.mplayer): \
needs=X11 \
section="Apps/Video" \
title="MPlayer" \
command="gmplayer"

Also you might try restarting your window manager after you run 'update-menus' as both root and user.

Thanks, someone told me the exact same thing earlier today. I put it in /etc/menu/ and it worked. This was the last big problem i had.
