/.dev

What is the story with this hidden directory. It is a clone of my /dev directory. It shows up in kdiskfree but not in fdisk. I've googled /.dev and doesnt seem to come up with anything.

Look in your fstab. Perhaps there's a second mounting of devfs there?

Nothing in there but my usuall mount points plus the /proc filesystem. Does anyone else have this directory?

The /.dev directory has to do with udev, the replacement of devfs.

From a comment in /etc/init.d/udev:
Quote:
/.dev is used by /sbin/MAKEDEV to access the real /dev directory.

Thanks for that, I actually started reading up on udev this morning but then had to go to work.
