Debian wheezy hangs after log in

I installed debian 7.7 i386 on my old p4 system. It freezes (keyboard does not work and can't do anything) after first log in. But, it does not freeze when I used ctrl alt f2 and go to other terminal login and give startx.
what is the problem? How to solve?
