debian testing freezes on login

I've installed latest debian testing and it freezes on login screen.
there is nothing odd in dmesg.

during installation it did complain about rtl8168d-2.fw missing.
its strange that xorg.conf is missing from /etc/x11/

debian displays the login screen for gnome, but it freezes. no mouse movement, and keyboard doesn't respond.

what could it be?

rm -rf /run
That's what I had to do.
then exit.

I had to search for the post that suggested it.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugre...bug=593083#122

Also X11 doesn't create an xorg.conf file anymore.
If you find it necessary you'll have to create 1. But I don't think you will need to.

The same thing happened to me 2x installing wheezy and network problems that I haven't resolved with rpcbind & mail.

You have to remove a file and it is not a bug?

This is one of the problems I have been having with new installs recently, along with network problems.

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck it is probably a duck. This looks like a bug to me.

hey, "rm -rf /run" worked like a charm! thanks man.
it seems some firmware related files were there.

@widget that's the 1 I was refering to on your post. It also says it's not a bug.
And the file is recreated at boot.
Another thing that is in that area is dhcp.

/run is not a file, its a directory.

I have worse problems now, kernel bugs.. :/
May 7 23:31:29 debian kernel: [ 33.015833] general protection fault: 0000 [#2] SMP
May 7 23:31:29 debian kernel: [ 33.015862] last sysfs file: /sys/devices/virtual/sound/seq/uevent

[ 32.338068] general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP
[ 32.338095] last sysfs file: /sys/module/bluetooth/initstate

EDIT: I've installed some latest firmware from 'net and all is well again! thankfully its less than 1Mb download.
