Debian Etch PowerPC Install Questions

I want to implement Debian Etch on my iMac 350 and have run into a few issues.

First, when I start to partition, I am presented with the following list:

Code:
1 - Apple
2 - 6 - Macintosh
7 - Patch Partit
8 - Free Space
This computer had Mac OS 9 on it but I formatted the drive with the "zero all data" option using the disk utility on my Mac OS restore disk. I don't intend to use this machine as a duel-boot. I want to get rid of partitions 2 through 7 and leave the partition 1 but I want to ask before I do anything. Partitions 2-7 all range between a few KBs to a few hundred.

Then how should I configure my partitions on a Mac? I read that I should have a 100 MB /root, 50 MB for a Mac boot partition, 128 MB for a swap (Mac has 64 MB RAM) and the rest of the space for /home.

The boot partition sounds a bit too much and I'm not sure if I should have a /root and /home on separate partitions.

Thanks in advance for any help.

the first thing to go is to delete every partiton expect the first one. Then format the boot partiton, i dont think theres around that. Then format the swap partiton and format the rest with the your desired file system and set it as the / partiton which it the root /root is the home directory for the root user. Just have it all under / so not to risk there not being enough room for the system and programs you need.

Ubuntu 6.06.1 Server for powerPC

Hi,

Sorry but I just wanted to post this for others like me who had way too much difficulty getting a Linux distro installed on a PPC machine.

I finally tried the Ubuntu PPC server install and it works so well! It was cake to install, and if you DO want the desktop and everything just run aptitude once the system is setup
