browsing problem

Hi
my Firefox 1.5.0.1 on my debian unstable 2.6.15 box connected is not able to connect to a site like http://mail.yahoo.com/?.intl=us in my setup which is:
a phone line from the wall to my adsl modem/router.
a Ethernet cable from the modem/router to debian eth0.
a Ethernet cable from debian eth1 to a switch.
a Ethernet cable from the switch to win2000 box

/etc/network/interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
...

however my win2000 is able to connect to the site above, which has
the setting in Firefox under Tools > Options > General - Connection setting
(Direct connection to the Internet) is checked. where as on the Debian box
the setting for this variable is (Manual proxy configuration - HTTP Proxy is
proxy.primus.com.au:8080 - use this proxy server for all protocols is cheked)
otherwise I am not able to surf with debian if I change it to Direct connection to the Internet. I realy don't know what is causing this to happen.

thanks

Since eth1 is static, you will need to put your dns servers in /etc/resolv.conf manually
nameserver xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

fred:/home/sam# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 192.168.1.1

the name server 192.168.1.1 is my adsl modem/router.

I must add, that sometimes it works, like now it is but sometimes it does not. i.e. now I am able to go to http://mail.yahoo.com/?.intl=us i and login.
