I'm running Xfce on etch and everything seems to be working well except the trash can. ~/.Trash exists and I can manually drop files into it, but whenever I try to drop files onto the desktop icon or the panel applet I get the following message:
Code:
Failed to copy "/home/steve/Desktop/filename" to "trash:///filename": Failed to open "/home/steve/.local/share/Trash/info/filename.trashinfo" for writing.
Do you want to skip it?
If I open the trask can using the desktop icon it does open, but doesn't seem to be linked to ~/.Trash (so it's always empty). As a workaround I've configured a custom action in Thunar to send files to ~/.Trash. Anybody know of a fix for this?
It has to be some sort of permission problem, as you already know. In that case, why you can manually do it?!?!?
What happens if you remove .local content outside of xfce and restart? (make back up before you do it)
Happy Penguins!
You know how you can sometimes miss something obvious...? For some reason only root had rw permission on .local originally. I did change this but failed to change the permission of the subfolders as well. A little too much Christmas cheer perhaps Anyway, your last post reminded me to look again. I'm pleased to say everything is now working as it should be. Merry Christmas, and thanks.
