"Adjust to Tv" freezes PC and can't be reset

I just tried the "adjust to TV" setting under Display settings on Debian 11. Immediately after accepting the change, my PC froze up completely. If I move the mouse, the mouse cursor will move about a minute later. I can't revert the setting Because the PC is frozen. I was able to get into settings after around 30 minutes of waiting for the mouse to move, but I could not change any settings because changes to display settings revert after 30 seconds, which was not enough time for me to get the mouse cursor onto the "accept changes" button. I have tried restarting the PC but after logging in it freezes up again. It is a new PC and a fresh Debian install. Ryzen 5 CPU, 16gb ram, 1080 dedicated graphics. Do I have to do a full install again or is there something else I can do to fix the PC?

Hi,

probably the easiest way back in is to just move your ~/.config directory out of the way. However, this will remove most of the customizations that you have made to your account.

A more precise way would be to use dconf or gsettings to change/remove just this display settings. There may be gnome users (assuming you are using gnome) that know exactly what settings to remove using gconf or gsettings... but I'm not one.

If you want to try the sledgehammer approach, exit the graphical session, open a tty using Ctrl+Alt+F2, log in and move the .config directory. Eg
Code:
mv .config .config.back
Then Ctrl+Alt+F7 and log in on the GUI.

HTH,

Evo2.

Do you actually have a TV attached to your computer?

Hey sorry for the late response. I did what you said and it worked. Thank you. No problem that I've lost other config because, as I say, fresh install, literally hadn't done anything else yet.
And yes ondoho, I do actually have a TV attached to my computer. Weird yes I bought the PC but can't afford the monitor yet. Hopefully next month.
