I was wondering how to get a screenshot from dsl. I tried the x capture thingy, but it just makes a window with the screenshot and I can't save it. Thanks. I really like this thing. I have to give knopix and debian more of a try.
If you've got ImageMagick, look into 'man import' (which is what I use) or if you've got the gimp, I think there's just a menu option or something. Dunno about DSL specifics but grabbing screenshots shouldn't really be distro-specific.
It is possible to get screenshots with both of these. I have also heard that it is possible to save a screenshot by (I think) hitting the print screen button and then pasting into an application capable of viewing it.
Originally posted by dsl_John If you are running from the CD or have a base install without adding any application use Xpain. I usually shrink it down before I take a screenshot.
it stands to reason that small also equals fast. it's one thing to fit inside 1/20th the requirements of a standard Linux install, it's another to have all that fire power available to you.
i wonder, could there ever be such a thing as ReallyDamnSmallLinux at about 5 MB ?
i know it has been a while since the last post on this thread but i had a question about using import to take screenshots.
i have written a shell script which takes a screenshot and puts it into a directory...now i wanted to make a cron job of this script so i used KCron to take screenshots every day at 22:30.
however i get a mail in my local inbox saying that import was unable to take the shot since it could not open the X server...even though i was working on the machine at that time and i know there was no screensaver etc.
you can see the script at http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/rmano...cts/screenshot
could it be bacause the script is not running as root?
i have tried out the script from the command line doing ./screenshot and it works perfect.it is only the cron job which creates a problem.
if someone could help me with this i would really appreciate it.
