Is it possible to make an iso of DSL within DSL if I'm running DSL?
I want to boot this HP-Compaq nx9010 using the BIOS-integrated PXE utility from a VAIO running PL528.005 as the webserver. Even though I've got to the point it starts loading the initrd.gz file it always fails there & restarts. So, I thought of trying an OS known to be able to boot this machine: that's DSL (recently).
More than a year ago I used both, Ubuntu 8.10 & Puppy Linux 431 here & both booted the machine & worked OK (live cds in both cases). Neither of those has been able to boot it (recently). Dirt in the drive might be the cause or maybe something else, I don't kthat I can't move within DSL with ease yetnow for sure.
I've been advised to try the DSL iso file with the PXE thing but I don't find where I put it if it is true that it still exists. I think I've seen a site where I can d/l one or two versions of DSL but I've also seen that some people have had trouble with newer versions (don't remember in what sense). So, knowing that I can't move within DSL with fluidity or confidence yet, I need a little guidance.
Now to more precise details. I want to know if it's possible for me to recuperate/make an iso of DSL from what's running right now here at the HP & burning it to a cd or better yet, transferring it to the VAIO somehow? If this isn't possible or is too complicated, how can I get the info required to d/l a close version of DSL compared to the one I'm running now?
From the desktop I can see the following: Linux 2.4.31 on i386. Hope this help a little.
Thank you for any help/tip with this!
