Dsl issues when Installating on hard drive

Hello,
I have been successfull in using the live CD of DSL (damnsmallLinux) when loaded in RAM. I am trying to install dsl on the hard drive.
Have used the 'install' option when the CD boots but have not been successfull.

There were initially 2 partitions on the 2 GB hard disd

/dev/hda1 of 750 MB size on which Win 98 is installed.
/dev/hda2 of size 8 MB which is the Compaq diagnostics partition (contain BIOS setup information)
I then used cfdisk and created a Linuux partition /dev/hda3 of the remain space.

I used the CD to install DSL but I noticed several errors along the way. i.e before coming to the prompt where one changes root passwords etc
I noticed several errors like...
cloop: error -3 uncompressible block 1708
tar: /usr/local/lib/sshnodedelay.so.0
Read error at byte 0, reading 3254 bytes Input/output error.
However intstallation proceeded, it asked be to create the grub loader etc.

While rebooting the system the grub loader comes up with several options. I chose DSL 800 by 600.
Proceed further but during startup I could see several errors like
ldconfig: /usr/lib/libord.so.0 is not an ELF file. It has wrong magic bytes to start.

However it proceeds after entering the username and password the initial screen comes up which is not clear as with the liveCD mode and the mouse is not working. Basically I cannot do anything.

Please note I am able to use it in LiveCD mode very well and it is very clear then but I need a floppy everytime to boot the CD
The screen is very clear in liveCD mode.

I think something went wrong in how I created the Linux partition. Can someone give me some clues as to what went wrong.

I haven't installed DSL in Ages and I installed it as the only Operating system (no Windows so no dual boot. I posted instructions on how I did it in one of my blog entries.

Hope it helps you. That's the best I can do for you.
