DSL has wrong kernel/graphic driver for IBM thinkpad 380E ?

here DSL has kernel 2.4.x booting with for IBM thinkpad 380E
and display is looking like the view of a flees eye ...

there is no kernel panic - means that kernel is not wrong,
but display is not changing whether I adjust it to 8 bit or 16 bit
or to resolution with 800x600 or 1024x768 ...
it is looking the same with a bad "fence" and some monochrome color
in purple ...
I tested it with kernel 2.2.14 and suse 6.4 before - there display was good.

what should I do ? - display is not broken.

There is a new version of dsl that may help.

The issue should be solved by using vesa. On older stuff vesa is sometimes faster and better anyway.

Thanks for your answer.

yes, of course vesa was running with adjustment to 1024x768*16Bit ...
vesa is running anyway with this result - like described above (both with DSL 4.11RC1 and with DSL 3.1)

I should try then resolution 800x600 instead ... ?

I never did get the flea's eye part. Is that too large for the display?

With older stuff, yes, try even 640x480. Never hurts to try some other distro's made for older or low resource devices.
