hi, ive burned the file dsl-2.2.iso to a cd using CD BURNER XP PRO3(i used the boot options in the wizard and other standard options ; also choose to shut down after finishing burning) i powered on the computer and had the message DOS CANNOT BOOT,PLEASE TRY ANY KEY. I entered the bios and set system to boot first from my cd driver and have the same answer. need an urgent help, ive been trying for a long while now!
In case i would have chose wrong setting in cd burner xp pro3, could u tell me how to proceed to burn well the file. thanks for all.
harys
hi, that the path i followed to download the dsl.iso.in the dsl web site 1st click on http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/opsys/linux/damnsmall/> <current> <dsl-2.2.iso [14] - 06 Feb 06 23:02 51 638 272>. i saved it on my desktop and burn it to a cd with cd burnerxp pro 3. any suggestions would be grateful! harys
Hi, I've been reading this thread and the problem sounds the same as mine. I am putting dsl 2.2 on a 128Mb Ram, 451mHz AMD-K6 with a partitioned HD (31.1Gb). Here's what I have done:
-burnt a data copy (not image) of the .iso file on a cd using Record Now and used it to no avail,
-burnt dsl-2.2.iso on cd
|_using Nero 7 "Data" -"Make Bootable Cd"
|_here is a page that shows each step using Nero 6 (mostly the tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=297
-insert cd in pc (win-xp) and reboot
|_press 'delete' at BIOS startup (I have AMIBIOS v1.4, icons vary with versions)
|_'advanced CMOS setup' and change 1st boot source to CDROM
|_reboot
---still not booting from cd, rather loads win xp---
After trying 3 different variations of burning the .iso file I'm thinking the cd and the file condition are what they should be. So that means getting my pc to boot from its cdROM should be where the problem rests...Here's a page I found explaining how AMIBIOS setup works:
fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/boards/Motherboards/MicroStar/MS6309/6309-3(ami).pdf
sounds like you haven't burnt the image to your cd correctly. try booting from the windows cd or something though - to verify that the boot from cdrom actually works. if it doesn boot from the windoze cd or other cd, then obviously you have burnt it wrong.
well if ur using windows, there is a little program that works with no problems burning a iso image, its called burncdcc by terrabyte, just remember to burn at a slow speed.
that program did the trick -thanks! Linux begins but gets hung up after autoconfiguring devices...I've seen this problem on another thread but with different hardware. I copied the contents of the boot cd on one of the hard drives and tried booting from that drive...but nothing as expected. I'll suppose I'll reboot a few times since my hardware has some serious use on it and is prone to bootup failures. That and searching online...
The cd is now functioning as a boot disc as it should. Of course this has only unfolded several new problems that are more complex. Installation has failed about 5 or 6 times. Perhaps there is discord between linux's hda1 hda2 names and windows' c: d: but what do I know. Unfortunately I don't have as much time to figure it out since my other machine (laptop) has lost its ntdll.dll file and 4 downloaded copies and 2 winsock fixers have only made other programs stop working. WOOhoo! I think I might be turning two previously well functioning computers into expensive boat anchors.
