Damn small on a Compact Flash card.

Building a media box... I want it to run read only off a Compact Flash card. How can I "burn" the DSL ISO on to a CF card? (using just a cdrom drive, and CF card)

hey, i'm working on a media box too (based on a EPIA M10000). I don't know how you plan to use the CF card but i'm going to use a IDE->CF bridge for it. In that case you can approach it as a HD and probably do a HD-install (http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-hd-install.html). I haven't started yet (first trying to understand linux a bit better (n00b)), so i might be of little help. But i'm very interested in how your system and how it works out for you.

I was also planning on using an Flash to IDE interface for the card.
But there were two main things I had to consider.

1. The average CF card will not last long when used as a HDD... so mounting it in read-only mode is a must if you want it to live longer then a few months.

2. If the card is mounted read-only, then you could compress your software (like it is done on Linux Live CDs) and fit even more programs in a smaller space. This keeps costs down.
