customising frugal usb install

Hi
I'm trying to build an minimalistic web server. I was wondering if there is an easy way for to strip out any of the apps that come with dsl such as the word processor, games etc? I'm booting off ram etirely so therefore I can't afford any unwanted apps being there. Trouble is my server only has 512mb ram. I don't think it's worth buying more ram since I don't use this spare pc much.

Even running all of dsl in ram, 512MB is quite a bit. You don't have to run it all in ram, if you run it from optical media, only the parts you need loaded in ram will be there. I'd say booting to a CLI rather than X would save you quite a bit more space. There are also a few distro's that run off of a floppy that do exactly this, so you don't need the "bloat" of X and DSL if you don't want it. If you really want to build your own tool, check out Linux From Scratch.
