BitTorrent and libwxgtk2.3-python in DSL 7.3

I'm a bit confused about using the version of BitTorrent that I get by downloading it from MyDSL and the libwxgtk2.3-python libraries. Running BitTorrent from the command line as /usr/bin/bittorrent I find that I get an error that the system is using libwxgtk2.2-python and that this will not work with BitTorrent. But when I try to upgrade python by downloading the deb I get a lot of dependency errors while synaptic wants to stick with 2.2.
Is there a workaround to this?

In answer to my own question.

I was quite intrigued about getting a copy of Knoppix3.6 which was only available by Bittorrent, so I kept poking around and found btdownloadcurses which works just fine. Apparently the error I was referring to is just a GUI problem rather than a problem with downloading torrents. I found that on Knoppix3.4 and later saw that DSL had it as well.

And since I know you're dying to hear, yes I got Knoppix3.6 in a few hours and I saw some improvements over 3.4 although I'm still not getting DVD recording speeds I can get on Nero using Windows. The interesting thing about that is that I get far better CD writing speeds using the 2.6 kernel than I do with Nero in Windows so it is possible for 2.6 Kernel to be better than Windows drivers at burning optical media. But my DVD burner is still running slow at 1/2 speed on 4X media that it can burn at 4X under Nero.

Oops, spoke too soon.
I assumed that was the case because it seemed to be true on Knoppix, but under DSL btdonloadcurses still give the pythor error.

You might try this before running the program:
export PYTHONPATH=/opt/python/bin
export PATH="$PATH:$PYTHONPATH"

Also, make sure you have the latest versions of these packages. The myDSL mirrors are not always up to date.
