back to your compile attempt

did you download the tarball?
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/ript...3122800.tar.gz

did you spot you need a certain compiler version which you do not appear to have?
gcc version 2.95.4 or similar is required to compile modules for your kernel

I don't use DSL so can not help....but if interested in NOT buying a cheap sound card....maybe you could try puppy or tinycore
tinycore developer is ex-DSL and puppy is due to google hit

http://www.mepis.org/archives/node/10797
Altho its 2006

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/vie...d35c42579963d9
suggest you try puppy out in live cd

post the output in a code box for
aplay -l
lsmod
lspci

if puppy works we should be able to cheat and see how to make alsa work with dsl?

No I do not have a bios entry that I know of... I might look around though.

Which is the modem part of this? The only jacks on it are an audio out and a game port ( which I have a game pad connected to ). The modem and Ethernet are on different cards. Or maybe I missed something
If the "modem" is actually the game port then it could be disabled as I don't see any use except for my games, which I still boot windows for. Even a real modem could. As Long as it does not effect my ethernet.

These are the the steps I took:

1. Downloaded the generic riptide tar.gz (not the auto installer)
2. Extracted it using the terminal to /home/dsl/
3. Renamed it to riptide for easy typing
4. Navigated to it in terminal, cd /home/dsl/riptide/
5. Ran make install
6. bash: make: command not found, I came here for help
7. Installed all three packages listed. One didn't seem to download but using a .uci instead of the .dsl worked
8. Repeated steps 4 and 5
9. Got permission denied errors like crazy
10. Ran as root
11. Got the errors as posted earlier
12. Ran ripconfig just to see. Got the message as posted earlier

That should be everything.

So whats this about a module not loading? What should be my next move?

I also can't thank you enough aus9. You have been so helpfull to me and given me plenty of help. And thanks for trying camorri.

Edit:
Sorry I missed this post... Must have posted wile i was typing.
I have tried puppy before and it simply won't boot. Wary puppy boots but is too slow to even open a file browser. See i only have 64mb ram. That's why i use dsl

----what is your next move --- is up to you.

as cascade9 suggested you could look for a cheap sound device

I gather you use ethernet which is good so .....the modem has to have sound....it can interfere with a real sound device. that is why I wanted you to disable in your bios.

I suggest you look at tinycore or its smaller cousin microcore.

I suggest you then ask for compiling help at the tinycore forums.

I have used tinycore's oss and alsa on my real hardware....but I no longer use it or post there but I am pretty sure once you install the compiltec packages (auto gets the dependencies) when you re-run the riptide stuff using root....post there and someone is bound to help you (I hopes)

2) alternatively install a cheap usb sound device but not sure if you are on battery or not.

I don't think I can help you any more.

compiling is not my strong suit.

good luck

I think I will give up on the compiling. It just seems like it won't work at all. I might look around for a cheap sound device if I really want it, but I might just end up using the pc for other stuff. Feel free to sugest any cards that are compatible though.

Thank for everybody's help and sugestions!
