a question about xtris on DSL


hello thar. how has dsl got xtris working so fast?? i just installed it from source on another distro, but the blocks move alot slower than they do on DSL 2.2(live cd). i know its a bit cheeky to be asking

DSL is a lightweight distro with a lightweight windows manager. If memory serves me correctly you are using Vector which is a more "Full bodied" distribution in comparison to DSL. DSL also typically runs in system memory which is(usually)faster then a hard disk based installation.

oh i see , well its not going reeeally slow, i can live with it

If you would like to speed things up you could always try shutting down unneccessary services; of course that would mean editing init files from the command line but it could prove to be a excellent learning experience for you if you are so inclined.

i ran the 'ps -aux' command and it gave me a list of about 25 services that were currently running, some i recognised, like bash, others im not sure about. any tips as to which services are generally not needed and safe to terminate? also do you now what the name of the memory and cpu monitoring program on the DSL desktop is?
