Hi caleb,

Congratulations !!!

Just to remind me later, what options were missing to your cdrw to work?

After passing the parameter to grub the cdrecord started recognizing your cdrw, or what?

i don't know for sure what was it that was wrong.
the thing is that i reinstalled cl8 all over again cause i got rid of windows and wanted to do a whole new fresh install.
i think the problema was that i must have created the files /dev/scd0, /dev/scd1, /dev/sg0, /dev/sg1, /dev/sga, /dev/sgb wrongly and maybe that's the reason why cdrecord didn't recongnize my cdrw...

now i still have two problems

1) i can't read music cds, so i can not rip...
it says Não se pode introduzir file:/mnt/cdrom. Você não tem os direitos de acesso para este local

2) i don't know why but even though my cd-rom and cd-rw are correctly recongnized as ide-scsi, when i reboot cl8 finds the two of them again, creates /dev/cdrom1, /dev/cdrom2, /mnt/cdrom1, /mnt/cdrom2, and adds the proper lines into fstab. I mean, it recongizes my cd-rom and my cd-rw as ide-scsi but it also recongizes them as two new cd-rom and -cd-rw !

well i'll try to work it around and then i'll tell you what happended

thanks for your help, i really apprecciate it

Hi caleb,

Well, sometimes we don't know the reason, but the important is that's working fine...

About your first error, when it happens? mounting thru kde links?
You could check if supermount exists in your cdrom line in fstab, if is realy there, change it, because sometimes it could messup...

And about your second error, it's kudzu working here, it isn't?
You can unmark kudzu to check your hardware in startups:
# ntsysv

see ya

yep there is a supermount line in fstab
i'll delete ti to se what happens

about my secnd problem
yep kudzu is running on startup
do i have to open /etc/rc.d/init.d/kudzu an edit it commenting some line or something?

thanks for the tip (dica, i'm learning, i'm learning !!! )

Hi,

About kudzu, just run the comand

# ntsysv

It will apear a list with several deamons, mark/unmark then with SPACE, and OK, you're done with

About supermount, you can't just remove the parameter, put iso9660 in this place

see ya

Hi caleb,

About your /etc/fstab file, you shoul remove the extra line that mount's floppy via supermount, because you don't need that ...

And about chkconfig, yap, that's right, that should do the same thing...

About your missing ntsysv...

`locate` checks in a database created by `updatedb` previously, so probably after your last updatedb, you lost your package ...

Check if it stills in rpm database:

#rpm -q ntsysv

or reinstall if you wanna see how it looks like

#rpm -ivh /mnt/cdrom/conectiva/RPMS/ntsysv-version-...

seee ya

ok so

i did a /sbin/chkconfig --del kudzu and problem solved

in the other hand i did remove de line
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 defaults,user,noauto,ro 0 0
from /etc/fstab and now i get to listen audio cd's via xmms but i can not rip'em using grip or koncd...

koncd doesn't even read the cdtracks
grip does read them but when i try to rip them, nothing happens
i bet that's related to the some grep config issue..

i'll try to work it around if i can and then i'll let you know what happened.

o, also and even though i can listen to the cd tracks via xmms, when a try to acces an audio cd through the kde link, it doesn't read the tracks

thanks for your help vlad

by the way, are you registered on linux dicas?
what's the past form of cadastrar in portugues?

: -) In the truth, I only register in cadastre it is necessary in some cases, as to send private messages but to use the site, that is total free and Phorum is not obligator registers in cadastre it: -)

Either Free Linux uses
