grub2-install on a drive is failing due to missing of a module

Hi Linux Guru,

I was trying to fix the centos 7 linux booting issue as it was unable to pick the kernal image, I booted the centos in rescue mode but when I am trying to do grub2-install on disk it is failing due to below error.

Quote:
grub2-install : error : cannot open /boot/grub2/i386-pc/mda_text.mod : input/output error
I tried to see the file in /boot/grub2/i386-pc folder but I couldn't find above file any idea how can this can be fixed?

this is what the module does mda_text - This driver provides text support for MDA (Monochrome Display Adapter) as opposed to VGA.
If that is the only error try adding the --force option but, if you need that module might not be a good idea.

If the module in in /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc copy it to /boot/grub2/i386-pc.
The other option is to update software and hopefully there is one for grub that will resolve the issue.

Thank you folks for your reply so we had this weird issue not sure what caused this problem, to resolve this in "Rescue mode" we had copy /boot filesystem to other location as backup and formated the /boot filesystem and copy back the files of boot partition in formatted /boot filesystem later ran the grub2-install /dev/sdX which resolved the issue , earlier I tried to copy the files from /usr/bin/grub/ to /boot/grub2/i386-pc but the copy of the modules was failing with i/o error. I couldn't able to figure what caused this issue but this happened when we shrink the / filesystem to the small size and tried to reboot the system.
