Grub fallback option not working

Hi All

We are going to update our servers from linux version 2.6.18 to 2.6.39.
We want to configure grub so that when booting from the new kernel fails, it will automaticly fall back to the previous kernel.

I've tried the options as suggested here but do not work. Grub will always boot the last booted kernel.

Our servers run on an Centos5.10 installation

Here is my grub.conf:

Code:
default=saved
timeout=10
fallback 1 2
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
fallback 0 1
title CentOS (2.6.39.4)
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.39.4 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVolRoot
        initrd /initrd-2.6.39.4.img
        savedefault fallback
title CentOS (2.6.18-371.el5)
        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-371.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVolRoot
        initrd /initrd-2.6.18-371.el5.img
        savedefault fallback
title CentOS (Latest) - Recovery with ssh and networking
         root (hd0,0)
         kernel /HL-vmlinuz-latest ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVolRoot 1
         initrd /HL-initrd-latest.img
         savedefault
Has anyone ever ran into this problem as well?

I've never used that option but I would think a better source of information would be the actual Grub Manual at the link below, Section 13.
