I am trying CentOS 6.6 in a VirtualBox 4.3.18 before putting it on physical hardware, and after installing gdm and kdm (with the X dependencies yum found), when I type startx I get the error in the attached screenshot.


I have also tried running Xorg -configure only to receive a similar error message, and have noticed there is no Xorg.conf. Typing in "init 5", "kdm" ad "gdm" also renders similar results. Anaconda only worked in text mode.


Thanks for any leads you can provide. If this requires compiling a kernel, I'll just skip this step.

Just found out that VirtualBox didn't give the system enough RAM by default. Nevermind.
