The new schedule of Calculate Linux Desktop release.
The Calculate Linux project has celebrated 2 years of the existence recently. During this time the considerable work on its improvement has been done and we've got quite good results. For example, Calculate Linux Desktop has been released 25 times, having evolved from stage4, in high-grade livecd, which is completely compatible with Gentoo Linux. However, we do not wish to stop on reached, but need to bring some changes in terms of an exit of new versions. So, since the following version, Calculate Linux Desktop will be released one time in 2-3 months like server version CDS. The increase in terms will allow to concentrate more closely on the new ways of the project, to increase time of testing and to reduce defects quantity.
Unfortunately, we've decided that the CLD 9.8 release by August, 1st is not meaningful for some reasons which decision we consider necessary, for example:
OOo 3.1 hangs up the livecd at start on the former, and OOo 3.0.1 does not gather together with firefox 3.5.1.
Last kernel using is impossible, because 2.6.30.3 kernel is cycled rsync at copying of user profile on a server.
The 2.6.29.6 kernel without lzma grip will increase an ISO image in ~1,5 times, so we thought that without additional improvements it will be impaired a little impression.
The main innovation which will allow to change selectively the structure of a distro, hasn't yet ready. Release Calculate Linux Desktop XFCE is postponed too. The following version of the distribution will not find room any more on CD since absence of an image compression through lzma will increase system volume. Therefore it would be desirable to add the XFCE version by missing software, to return remote source codes of a kernel and portages. Release of KDE 4.3 is postponed till August, 4th. The Calculate Directory Server is planned to release in a month. In 9.9 version we will add support of adjustment DNS+DHCP by utilities Calculate 2 with storage of options in LDAP. And, at last, Calcuate Linux Scratch 9.8, work over which goes at full speed, we plan to release in the near future.
