synaptic package manager not behaving as expected on bodhi

This may mean I have missed something but I have installed bodhi linux then went to install some packages. Fine on apt-get but could not 'apply' any choices on the 'synaptic package manager' unless I downloaded a script to my home space and then used the Gdeb.(?) installer to install. I know 'quick start'(or something like) would be quicker but is that the normal operation of 'synaptic p. manager' on bodhi?

When you open synaptic from the enlightenment menu, it does not open the program with super-user privileges. Try opening it from the terminal with

Code:
gksudo synaptic
or edit the menu entry somehow.

This is how I did it when I used Bodhi for a couple of weeks six months or so ago.

bodhi synaptic

Thanks I will try that (gksudo synaptic) on Friday but I have not seen a launch written like that, why is the gk before the sudo? The reason for choosing Bodhi is use it on older computers that would otherwise get thrown away, even on our shoestring project! So far it has promise.

I don't know if it is installed by default, so you may need to install the following:
