I think the problem is that there is a lot of experience and knowledge out there, but much of it remains in people's heads rather than written down, and that which is written down is either difficult to find, or (sadly) difficult to understand when you do find it!

I actually had no intention of releasing the script, but I changed my mind after reading another thread where a new user was struggling to get Music, Video, Template, etc folders in their Home folder; an issue that my script fixes automatically. The script sets up what I consider to be a reasonable system suitable for a new user, enabling them to make a yes/no decision on whether or not it suits them.

The new user can run the script as-is. The experienced user can take whatever they need from it and leave the rest (as the song puts it).

Hello,

I installed Bodhi Linux on an old laptop and I'm pretty satisfied with the overall speed etc.
However, I have a Belgian French keyboard; I managed to change it following the instructions, but unfortunately Bodhi only saves it for the current session.
I guess I could manage to change it through a startup script, but could someone please show me how to achieve this or point me to an appropriate resource?

Have you done the following commands?
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade

During the "upgrade" you will be asked to choose your keyboard, and to the best of my knowledge, once set it doesn't revert.

Hello there

There are several options how to do that. The easiest way is to do this:
1. open the terminal emulator (terminology)
2. sudo apt-get update
3. sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

during the upgrade the keyboard setting will emerge and you can follow the wizard for selecting your layout.

Could an update include enabling touchpad support? I have forgotten what I did, and only remember -- I think -- that there was more than one way?

If anyone remembers the 'best' way, that gives the user the most control, it would be nice to include that. My 701 has a synaptic pad and if I recall, it didn't work on a fresh install.

I'll be glad to help with the testing. After the 701 is configured, I'm intending to put 5.0 on the 701SD. I'm still working on symbolic links to get around an access-bottleneck in the SD card interface. But that should be resolved soon.

I was thinking of some type of GUI that would include double-tap delay adjustment, and so forth. Perhaps some of the members who were just getting the pad to 'turn on' -- quite some time ago -- would have information on implementing a more complete solution?
