New computer and no sound
Had a new new computer for about a week, absolutely no sound. Managed to solve alot of other oddities.
Sound is the only existing problem and have no clue.
Few details:
- OS (see below my username)
- 64GB DDR4 2666MHz Ram
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB GDDR6
Also have no idea how to install drivers and/or software from nVidia website.
Thanks

Best to start by showing us the hardware details...
If inxi is installed, then
Otherwise
Code:
lspci -nnk |grep -iA3 audio
If a driver is loaded, run
and report back with the mixer settings.
Finally, the alsa-info.sh utility can be used to generate an comprehensive online report that can be shared here to assist with audio diagnostics...

Ok, so the (snd_hda_driver) driver is loaded. I note that you have 2 devices: NVIDIA graphics card (with audio) and the Intel audio hardware. Which audio output device (AKA audio sink) are you wanting to hear sound from?
You might find that its just PulseAudio that needs configuring here. Use pavucontrol (the GUI PulseAudio Volume Control) to check that the active profile (refer 'Configuration' tab) is correctly set, so that the appropriate output sink is selected.
This PulseAudio command can be useful to share available and active sinks....

i used the mintupdate package (
sudo apt install mintupdate ) which comes with some other helpful programs including one that helps install additional drivers. the other day i believe it was enigma9o7 who suggested i could use
ubuntu-drivers list and then
sudo ubuntu-drivers install if i wanted to use the ones listed.
if you require more help in this regard, it might be a good idea to start a separate thread since the title for this one is about sound.

Failed or forgot to mention, my monitor has really nice speakers built-in, its a Dell S2715H model. No other speakers.
Sound worked for the extremely short time using Windows 10 on it.
pamd is not found, it does show to use sudo apt install dacs to install.
@cordx, will look into that after sound works, appreciate the information.

trying to check the quick, easy option first: did you check the settings by clicking on the volume icon in the shelf and then settings (gears-ish icon - or you can run pavucontrol from the terminal) to see if you could change output devices?

Sorry for the command typo. Anyway, that output confirms as expected for HDMI output....

After clicking volume icon and gear icon, tried every single option listed, nothing.
Unless I need to reboot everytime changing something.
Entering
pavucontrol in terminal results in errors, but still use it. No errors when using volume icon, what I normally use.

volume control setting should be immediate and i get similar errors when launching some programs from the terminal, but they never stop the program from functioning correctly.
do you have a headphone jack you can try to see if it has sound?

No sound from headphone plugged in front or rear.
This new computer has been nothing but problems, solved many and currently using it, sound is the only thing left.

my new one with an nvidia gpu and sound like yours (though mine works) continues to be much harder to set up than my old system with intel internals.

New computer works differently than my last one. Aside from failed USB ports on back of last one, everything else worked, Bodhi just worked.
I have Bodhi on an 500GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD for storage.
Bodhi just works now, except cannot figure out sound.
I even tried another distro via USB stick and ran the live version, same result, no sound.
Edit again:
HDMI cable is plugged in HDMI port on the nvidia graphics card. There is another HDMI port, nothing shows on screen when used.
