How do I boot bodhi in safe graphics mode?

I’ve installed bodhi on an old pc but the display seems to only work in safe graphics mode. I’ve had to use xversa instead of xorg for every linux distro I’ve installed on it. When I initially booted bodhi from a disk I had the option to boot in safe graphics mode and it worked fine but now that it’s installed I do not. I know it must be possible to do something in the grub menu but I have no idea how. Any help would be much appreciated.

at the grub menu hit e to edit the menu entry you want to edit, add nomodeset to the end of the line that begins with linux.

For a more permanent change edit /etc/default/grub and add it to this line

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"

Then run update-grub
