Hi guys,

I would LOVE to translate Bodhi Linux into the german language!
Who is the responsible at Bodhi Linux to talk to?
Anyone willing to join?

Let's make it happen!

Hello there

I am glad you would like to participate on the Bodhi Linux/GNU project

I hope I am competent to talk with you
I did this job for slovak language some time ago. It took me 2 weeks as the sk.po file contains 12000 lines I had to check and in case of bad translation correct or add as a new text. I hope you are aware of hard job. Probably yes

OK now, how to do that:
- Have you checked the german translation state? Is it needed to do this job? Do you see translation troubles?
- If yes, you have to work with de.po file where german translation is situated.

Our Moksha code is located here with your aimed file.

https://github.com/JeffHoogland/moks...aster/po/de.po

Ideal way for developer is registering on git hub, forking the moksha repo, make changes and pull request back to original repo.
The easiest way is just downloading the raw copy of the de.po file, edit it and send me to email to add to repo
As you wish. I don't know your skills so let me know which method you prefer.

Stefan

@ Mr. Maingrain

Are you sure, a translation is necessary, anyway?

Bodhi is available in german language already.

Just open the modules by choosing the according option in the menu on the desktop, enable/load the language module.
Then go to the module settings, find the language tab and choose german.
That's it!

Not everything is translated, my classicmenu module needs german in its desktop file (easy if someone wants to do it). Maybe other extra modules as well as other packages included with Bodhi or installed from our repos. Also some moksha changes have broken translation in Moksha itself, so it still needs work. And then you have other things to like our quickstart guide, it could use a german translation. And so on...

@ rbtylee

From time to time, on the web, I find postings of german users who don't know about the german version of Bodhi,
because they are not aware of the existence of the language modul, respectively its meaning.

So I thought, just in case, Mr. Maingrain might have been one of those, I could tell him where to look for the according settings.

Yea, Robert is right

There are also extra modules we have for Bodhi and they need some attention as well.

This is the repository for extra-modules maintaining

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies! I have been very busy, but now I would like to reply.

I have 3 things to reply for now:

1. I started my translations!

According to your little discussion, I just started to scan through looking for german (re-)translation and eventual correction of the following files:

1.1.
https://github.com/JeffHoogland/moks...aster/po/de.po

1.2.
https://github.com/JeffHoogland/moksha-modules-extra

2. I am missing few translations in the up-to-date version of Bodhi

After setting my own system's language to german, there are still buttons, titles etc. that are still in english. Are these covered by the de.po and and moksha-modules-extra repository translations?

3. Where can I ask for feedback on translations in de.po and moksha-modules-extra?

If I have questions regarding translations in order to understand where and how they are needed, who and where can I ask for feedback on that?

Kind regards,
Steffen

Štefan (the_waiter) is more familiar with the translation work than I am so ask him. Msg one of us for an e-mail address if you don't have one for him or can't find one

Thank you - Thread is solved

Hello, yes, now I and anyone else, even if for their own language, knows how to go about translation work for Bodhi after having read this thread.
