On my P4, when exiting the game frozen bubbles, which I got from the bodhi appcenter, it puts my desktop at 800x600. This only happens if the game is played fullscreen (which it always is, I setup everything full screen cuz its for my little kids). This doesn't happen on my other computers, they return to normal resolution after exiting....
If nobody has a solution, I guess what I could do is make a script that runs xrandr to fix it afterwards or something...
Had a different graphics problem with frozen bubble (see this thread). Frozen bubble uses SDL-perl library for graphics, which was doing weird things on my machine as well - only for full screen. I finally solved my graphics problem by editing the frozen bubble game itself (/usr/games/frozen-bubble on my system), as noted in the above thread. You may be able to do likewise (after backing up the original copy of the game).
on my archlinux system frozen-bubble is working fine (both problems mentioned ion this thread are not happening), it's version 2.2.1beta1-12.
i wonder which version ubuntu uses?
if it uses the same version, i'd say the problem(s) is/are in the sdl libraries, not frozen bubble itself.
(of course it can still be fixed by changing frozenbubble's code as dogpatch did)
Here's another thought: That, since SDL relies heavily upon the graphics config for Xwindows, the problem may be in that config file (or in the way sdl/frozen bubble interprets it). For example, in your case, you may be able to disable 800 x 600 resolution since you normally don't want that anyway. On my old Debian system, i would look in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, not sure of the naming convention for your system
