How old is it and do you use itoften t o put different iso's on it?
I had one for several years that I constantly was putting different iso's on it. It became a read-only, I could never find anything to fix it. Most posts I have come across with this same problem were sandisk. I don't know about Pny, most usbs will eventually quit after a huge amount of read/writes.

Yes, if it is an install .iso it should be read only.

XXXXXX Make sure which disk is your usb drive. XXXXXX

Example where usb stick is /dev/sdb

What does fdisk say about the stick?

Zero out the first few sectors
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb bs=2048 count=50
fdisk should now show the drive as free space.

Put a partition on the drive, format that partition.

See:
man fdisk
man dd
man parted
man mkfs.ext4
man mkfs.ntfs
man mkfs.fat

usb drives can also go bad.

If dd, among everything else you have tried, doesn't work the usb has seen better days, time to get a new one.
