e17 backwards mouse wheel

this mouse wheel is backwards and its annoying. scroll back moves page up, not down, scroll forward moves page down not up. My brain is use to the what it decided was normal behavior for a mouse wheel because ever other wm/dt does it that way just not e17, and it is really messing with my brain.

is there a way to switch that behavior of the mouse wheel. if so, then how?

to make the mouse wheel do this.

forward moves page up
backward moves page down

It isn't unique to e17 - I've encountered this nonsense elsewhere.

Not sure where it started - possibly Apple. Dragging a finger on a touch screen goes the opposite direction to scrolling a mouse wheel, so it seems some idiot somewhere decided they should go the same direction, and now other idiots are copying that stupidity.

If there isn't a toggle in wherever the mouse settings are in e17, report it as a bug.

then wait and see how long before anyone takes that seriously. I wonder where to look in order to change that on board. Maybe it's just a text type file that needs to be modified with a simple edit, save, in the mean time.

thanks

Perhaps, but if you don't report it, you can guarantee nobody will take it seriously for even longer.

Wikipedia says e17 switched from JSON to binary config files, so it might not be a simple edit/save of a text file, but maybe there is a grep-equivalent command for the binary config?

It also says the current version is e25, so are you actually running e17, or are you running Moksha (which began as a fork of e17 but is now its own thing)?

We take it very seriously

Mouse settings was fixed and touchpad settings was added to Moksha. Try to enable "Enable extraz" in settings for mouse and touchpad and play with "Natural scrolling" item. All settings will be accessible after system upgrade:

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

Stefan/dev

well, it is more of a design flaw then a bug. but thanks, it is still om my bucket list.

where exactly would "Enable extraz" be located? I'm not that savvy with e17, yet, and I'll let you know if that worked. I'm in Slack right now. thanks!!

update:

I'm Not sure what the whoever named it Natural Scrolling defined the behavior as.
in Mouse settings: unchecking "Natural Scrolling" mouse wheel forward is page down, mouse wheel backwards is page up.

Thanks again.

Natural scrolling was defined by devs who invented synaptics or libinput drivers. I agree, it sounds strange. I had also troubles to understand all these names. Anyway, not sure if I got you. Have you solved the problem? If not, go to another tab called Touchpad and enable extras. Both mouse and touchpad respect this check box. I will add the check box to the mouse section soon. Feature under development

Stefan

EDIT: after moksha upgrade mouse and touchpad should work properly as before, just restart moksha with CTRL ALT END to load new settings...

yeah it works as I like it now,as described on my post above as I think you said to select it to get that effect, so I just posted I had to unselect it to get the desired results. That's why I mentioned I'm not sure which way it is suppose to be under the defined as

Natural scrolling ;
SET 1:
Mouse Wheel forward = Page up
Mouse Wheel Backwards = Page Down

or

SET 2:
Mouse Wheel forward = Page Down
Mouse Wheel Backwards = Page up

With it Unselected it is set 1. that is why I tossed the ball into your court so your system can be in compliance (is that's how you want to roll, or be the rebel and not worry about it), with the way it is defined by the creators being "Natural scrolling". Because I don't know which one is which.

marked solved. thanks again.
