Just posting this in case there are any newbies looking to install or upgrade to 5.1.
I installed Bodhi 5.0.0 legacy on a laptop the other day and upgraded to 5.1 via updates (not intentionally originally!)
When installing, boot live, when the desktop appears, wait for a few minutes, then select install from the menus. During or after install, wifi is available to connect to. I connected after install - not sure if it speeds up the install process or not.
No issues whatsoever - except Synaptic package manager didn't work but there is a reason and that is resolved below. I did the updates via the terminal - it took a long time - over an hour - but that may depend on the hardware - my hardware is basic and only 1GB ram.
For any newbies just installing Bodhi, just let the updates run. Do sudo apt-get update, but you then also need to do sudo apt-get upgrade followed by sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to get the full upgrade. There were various questions along the way during upgrade. I selected y then hit return(yes)to all upgrades except grub and selected n (no) to upgrade that. Only because I am paranoid having had grub issues in the past with different linux versions. Might try that next time. But all running fine.
Also along the way you're asked which keyboard you have - I have no idea and none of the options fitted my 80 key keyboard so I selected Generic 101 keyboard - it then asks you to select language and country and all working fine.
Reboot after finishing all updates. And maybe reboot again.
Thanks to all involved for this upgrade. I hope there is a new iso soon to speed up the process, but once updates done, it's done!
It boots and shuts down quickly and smoothly (unlike Xubuntu 18.04!).
Incidentally - I installed from dvd with a usb dvd drive. I still cannot boot live from usb with Bodhi legacy but there is another thread on that.
After install I ran the following to get tap to click on mousepad
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
It then needs a reboot to work.
And sudo ufw enable (to enable firewall)
Installed on two Eee PC 701SD's with 8GB SSD and 1GB ram 0.09Ghz celeron processor. If installing on something this small, then you can hit "return" instead of clicking on "continue" or "apply" as the install page disappears off the bottom of the screen.
If you wish to have working folders in home for documents, music etc, like I do, then it is
sudo apt-get install xdg-user-dirs
xdg-user-dirs-update
Probably then needs a reboot. Thanks to Waiter for that!
After installing Chromium browser, Libreoffice writer, evince pdf, vlc and synaptic package manager, I had 2.7GB free of an 8GB drive :-)
It is all running very nicely and thanks to rbtylee for pointing me to the link on here that explained why synaptic package manager was not working straight away and how to resolve it.
