Linux in the future

Posted 09-06-2011 at 12:40 PM by stefragre

I'm so tired of reading 'negative' media articles about the Linux of tomorrow. How can anyone know the future? I can guess though, and one thing I'll guess is that the constant evolving of Linux in so many areas
can only be good thing. To think it's grown this much from a simple collage students project to where it is today. Numbers? Ha. User experience. Thats where it shines. You or I can take someone else's work
and make it work for you. Don't have to do a thing, if you don't want...

Job-less

Posted 01-19-2011 at 11:11 AM by stefragre

Apples Steve Jobs is a cancer survivor, like me, and he's a genius, and I'm not. But I can readily sympathize with his decision to retreat from the job he has. My own situation with cancer and the treatment I went through were similar, I ran a small
painting business, and knew I had to completely let it go. My treatment was extensive and time consuming, and because I had good people working for me I sold the business
to keep it going. Fortunately a competitor bought it and saved some...

Oh no, again..

Huh, football and Sunday afternoons is finally coming to an end. The New England Patriots have once again folded their tent early and gone home. Seems like a habit. Just think, a week ago the local media was treating Coach Belichick like he was a God.
And stuxnet, the worm. Is it true that it is a joint venture between us and Israel..??
True or not, it gives pause to wonder about the type of thinking in this latest piece
of malware.Aside from the politics involved, I'm not surprised...

not..

I appreciate Slackware Linux for the 'type' of linux that it is. Heck I even
TRIED to install an older version, about 3 or 4 years ago. For me it's just too much work.I prefer a distro that's ready right out of the box. I can 'personalize' any distro to suit my needs. Adding whatever I need, if at all,
without all that 'heavy lifting'. I like to tinker with stuff, but not at that level. Now take PCLinuxOS for an example. Its a complete and ready to use
OS, changeable to suit...

Great new year..

Posted 01-03-2011 at 04:52 PM by stefragre

Just a short post today. A wink and a nod to Jeremy and his holiday spirit. Great to enjoy such a resource that LQ provides us. I'm something of a 'distro junkie' known to change and try out new or newer OS's at a rapid pace. So much of what I post here will be related in that sense..
For instance, is it all Ubuntu out there.. Every time I check out the Distrowatch
pages there's a 'new variant' of that great distro listed. The only one I found
to really be worth while is Mint.....
