For printing to work, your user must be in the "lp" group. Check that they are, with the "groups" command. This group is included by default if you press the up arrow at the 'additional groups' stage when adding a user with Slackware's adduser script.

How to set up Slackware to automatically synchronise its clock, and account for Daylight Savings as well.
Step by step.
This process requires root access to the machine. All steps are done at the command line while logged in as root.
1. Check your time zone with # ls /etc/localtime
2. If the time zone is not correct, fix it with # timeconfig
