Swap File mounting at boot time

hello.
i've been using Arch for maybe a week on my home computer (coming from slack) and i love it. i've had no problems, so i figured i'd introduce my friend to it. installed the complete base, configured, rebooted, and then added the rest of the packages i wanted. I'm using the default kernel. it's on an IBM thinkpad t21 notebook, and his filesystem is reiserfs. everytime the computer boots up, arch says the swap file is "busy" and fails to mount it. i've tried to reformat the partition, to no luck. i've also run a bad-disk check on the partition (everything is fine). once booted into arch, swapon /dev/discs/disc0/part1 doesn't work either (as that says, hda1 is his swap).

any suggestions for getting this to work?
thanks

ouch, hda1 is the swap?
isn't that the one that boots?
find a program that examines your partitions, find which one is a linux swap, and change /etc/fstab so that this is the swap partistion, or better off use arch's configuration program to change the the default swap. but hda1 is an odd choice.

have you thought about using a loop device as a swap?

Swap File?

Check your fstab file and see where swap is pointing

Edit: Beat me to it.

Anyway hda1 is a very good location for swap, as its the fastest area of a disk.
