I just updated to the new XFree86 (-6) package and I get this when installing it:
xfree86... could not extract usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/lutBS14-IS08859-15.pcf.gz: Invalid argument
errors occured while upgrading xfree86
done.
updating font cache... /usr/X11R6/bin/fc-cache: error while loading shared libraries: libfontconfig.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
done.
Well, the new Xfree86 package is not essential. The only reason we rebuilt it is to get the makedepend binary working. For some (dumb) reason, it has a hardcoded path in it that includes the gcc version. So everytime we upgrade gcc, we have to rebuilt X. Annoying, especially for the dialup users.
So you may just want to ignore the upgrade until we release a newer version.
As for pacman, 2.6 has been sitting on the side until I finish dealing with some organizational issues. It will be along soon. Also note that it doesn't have MD5-tracking in it yet, that is a future goal but not planned for any particular release.
Umm, I just upgraded XFree86 (before visiting the forum and seeing this thread, otherwise I'd probably put that idea on hold). Anyhow it downloaded and installed without reporting any errors, and everything seems to work so far.
